Chapter 1150 - 1139: Favoring Daughters Over Sons

Chapter 1150 - 1139: Favoring Daughters Over Sons

"Why are there so many things at home?" When Ye Qiu returned and saw a lot of gifts on the coffee table, he casually asked.

He Xixian’s expression was complex, and she honestly recounted the events of the morning with Han Hui and Ye Peilin: "All these were brought by Dad and Mom, and they bought these things for me and the child."

As she spoke, she showed Ye Qiu the gold ornaments: "Later, when I was changing Lin Lin’s clothes, I found a bank card hidden inside them. I don’t know when it was placed there."

Upon hearing this, Ye Qiu paused for a moment, but his face betrayed no emotion.

He Xixian looked at him worriedly, "Are you okay? How should we handle these things?"

Ye Qiu said flatly, "Since they gave them to you and the child, just keep them."

He Xixian’s heart skipped a beat, and she tentatively asked, "How about we take the child to visit Mom and Dad tomorrow?"

"No need." Ye Qiu wasn’t oblivious to his wife’s probing, but he held no resentment, thinking his wife was already being gracious enough. It’s challenging for any ordinary woman to forgive easily after suffering the trouble from a father-in-law, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law.

Moreover, he himself didn’t really want to return to that home. One should not impose on others what one wouldn’t want for oneself. The hurt caused in the past couldn’t be offset by a single apology or act of goodwill.

Ye Qiu thought to himself that if his parents hadn’t gone through Ye Qing’s antics in this lifetime, and he continued naively paying for them, they might never have regretted their actions.

In the past life, wasn’t it the same? He worked himself to the bone maintaining that household, yet they still called him useless. Back then, Ye Qing also caused a lot of trouble, but he never saw them treat him with consideration. It was only because he shielded them from Ye Qing that the trouble didn’t fall upon them directly.

When he left that house, his father personally told him not to regret it and never to come back. But now, it’s they who regret it.

Ye Qiu couldn’t help but think, if he hadn’t become successful now, would his parents still feel as guilty as they do now?

There’s no point dwelling on these thoughts; the damage is done. If he forgives too readily, he can’t reconcile it within himself. But since they did give birth to and raised him, he won’t neglect their care in old age.

Han Hui and Ye Peilin were in a daze at home, ultimately not waiting for their son to bring his wife and child home. They only received a call from their daughter-in-law before leaving, saying they’d come visit when they had the chance.

"As expected, he still won’t forgive us." Han Hui smiled bitterly, but immediately, two uninvited guests arrived at their home, leaving her no time to dwell on the matter.

"What are you doing here again?" She looked defensively at her daughter and son-in-law.

"Mom, you’re selling the house? Are you crazy?" Ye Qing, in her current state, no longer resembled the once-proud, heavenly princess, but instead behaved like an unreasonable shrew.

Han Hui frowned at her daughter, unable to understand why she’d become like this. She’d spent decades as a people’s teacher, and her husband was an intellectual. Their daughter, once educated and graduated from a prestigious school, now appeared unreasonable, rude, and selfish.

"It’s my own house; I don’t need you to worry about it. You can go home." Han Hui said, attempting to close the door.

But Ye Qing had come specifically for this matter today and wouldn’t simply leave. Besides, this was her home; if she didn’t agree to sell the house, who else could? She’d lived here for over ten years!

"I won’t allow it. This is my home." Ye Qing barged in, sitting rudely on the sofa. "Who said you could sell the house? Do you still see me as your daughter?"

Han Hui felt a headache coming on. She felt her daughter was under some sort of spell, completely changed.

"This is the house your mom and I fought hard to buy. It has nothing to do with you. Whether we sell it or not isn’t for you to decide." Ye Peilin glared at his daughter and son-in-law. Having been a leader for many years, he exuded authority, and his glare genuinely intimidated the two.

Ye Qing realized she couldn’t be forceful, so tears began to flow, and she looked at Ye Peilin with grievance: "Dad, do you and Mom not like me anymore? I’m your daughter! You once said that no matter what happens, I’d always be your little princess, that you’d always cherish me. Have you forgotten?"

How could Ye Peilin forget? He would always remember how excited he was when his daughter was born and how close he came to tears when she first called him "Dad." Yet, all that love had dissipated amidst her daughter’s unreasonable demands and her repeated harm to family and relatives over a man.

He realized his mistake — spoiling his daughter wasn’t the same as indulgently pampering her. This harmed both her and himself.

Fortunately, there’s still a chance. His daughter loved the son-in-law who led her astray. Knowing the son-in-law was selfish and greedy, he understood that once his daughter had nothing, the son-in-law would certainly abandon her. When she realizes who truly cares for her, he can take her back and slowly guide her.

But not now. She hasn’t suffered enough; she won’t repent yet. He can’t continue ruining her life for the sake of soft-heartedness.

"Your second uncle’s debts must be repaid, and your mom and I have no money left. We still need to support your grandparents. Selling the house is the best option." Ye Peilin finally explained patiently.

"Then where will Wentao and I live after you sell the house?" Ye Qing persisted, feeling her parents were heartless, favoring the successful and forgetting her in her current plight, rushing to appeal to Ye Qiu.

"You two are already a family. We gave you a lot of dowry and investment before. If you’d managed it well, you wouldn’t be without a house now. Besides, don’t you still have your in-laws?"

"Dad, you want me to live with Wentao’s parents? Didn’t you say a girl’s biggest fear is suffering at her in-laws’? Even if I don’t suffer, living habits are different; how would I manage?"

"That’s your problem. You’re an adult now; you need to learn to manage your life. Take your husband and leave; your mom and I need to pack." Ye Peilin’s expression turned cold, regretting his past words, and he started to usher them out.

"Fine, fine!" Ye Qing laughed bitterly, her gaze sharp, "If you parents are so heartless, don’t blame me for ignoring you in the future. You’re the ones who drove both your son and daughter away; don’t expect me to come back."

Han Hui and Ye Peilin opened their mouths but ultimately said nothing. Yes, they had driven away both their son and daughter. But the reasons were different: one was out of anger and the other a result of careful deliberation. They once prided themselves as successful people, now seeing their greatest failure in parenting, ending up with complete ruin in their old age.
