Chapter 2906 - 2436: Holding on Until Meeting Joanna Lawrence
An familiar scent approached, and Joanna was hugged into the man’s arms as he walked up to her. A deep, magnetic, and very pleasant voice sounded above her head, "Did you get caught in the rain? How come you didn’t use an umbrella?"
"It’s fine, just a drizzle." Joanna hugged Ashton back and lifted her head from his embrace, smiling, "Besides, you brought an umbrella, didn’t you?"
Ashton looked down at her, and gently rubbed her head with his large hand, "Are you sure you want to go to the hospital?"
"Yeah," Joanna nodded, "Let’s go and see. This is the last time I will see her, and I want to know why she wanted to see me before her death."
"Alright," Ashton held the umbrella with one hand and wrapped the other arm around her, heading towards the Rolls-Royce parked nearby, "I’ll go with you."

An hour later, Joanna and Ashton arrived at Patient Hospital.
Unexpectedly, Denver Lancaster was also there, coming out to meet them.
"Is Annie really not going to make it?" Although Benjamin had told her about Annie’s condition, Joanna still wanted to confirm it from Denver, since she trusted his words more.
Not that she didn’t trust Benjamin.
But Annie was a notorious liar, and Joanna didn’t believe her at all.
Entering the hospital gate with them, Denver said, "Indeed, she’s not going to make it. She probably won’t last till dawn."
Since Denver said so, it must be true.
So, Annie was really dying?
For a moment, Joanna felt a strange mixture of emotions.
"She has severe injuries, most of which are fatal. Although she miraculously survived the first time, because of her heavy blood loss and injuries, she only managed to live for a few more days," Denver explained.
"Actually, it’s a miracle that she’s still alive now."
Joanna remained silent for a while before nodding.
"It seems that this really is the last time I’ll see her."

Soon, they arrived outside Annie’s hospital room.
Just as they approached the door, Joanna heard her father choking back tears while talking to Annie, "Annie, don’t talk anymore, just rest. Your sister, Joanna, will be here to see you soon. She promised me, she will definitely come."
"Will... will she really come to see me?" Annie’s voice was extremely weak and hoarse, as if it wasn’t her voice at all.
"She will definitely come," Benjamin comforted her, "You rest a bit first, and when you wake up, she’ll be here."
"No, I... I can’t sleep," Annie struggled, "I’m afraid that if I fall asleep, I... I won’t be able to wake up again. I... I haven’t seen Joanna yet, I... I can’t sleep."
"Annie, don’t be silly, you’ll be fine," Benjamin sobbed, "Don’t talk nonsense."
"Dad, I know my own body," Annie’s voice was intermittent, as if speaking was exhausting, "I know I can’t hold on for much longer. But... but I’ll hold on until I meet Joanna."
"Annie, you..."
"Dad, don’t- don’t you hate me? Don’t you blame Mom? Why did you still come to see me at the hospital?" Annie cried, "I’m not your biological daughter, why did you still come see me in the hospital?"
"I’m of course angry with your mom for lying to me all these years. But you are innocent, I’ve never blamed you. You may not be my biological child, but you are still the daughter I’ve raised and loved for more than a decade," Benjamin said with a heavy heart.
